Hedgecock Grabs $10,000 Victory at Lake Cumberland

Burnside, Ky. (June 27, 2025) — Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, TN survived multiple close calls in lapped traffic to earn a $10,000 victory Friday night at Lake Cumberland Speedway in the Billy Todd Classic co-sanctioned by the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series and the Northern Allstars Late Model Dirt Series.

Hedgecock battled with Jason Jameson of Lawrenceburg, IN in lapped traffic for much of the race, even getting tangled up in a wreck with the lapped cars in turn one with four laps remaining.

Both Hedgcock and Jameson were battered, but able to continue. Hedgecock was able to pull away in the closing laps as Jameson got busy holding off Joseph Joiner of Milton, FL. Jameson finished second and Joiner took the third spot. Joiner had to go to a backup car he had never driven just minutes before qualifying. Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN finished fourth and Josh Rice of Crittenden, KY was fifth.

Zack Mitchell of Enoree, SC finished sixth and Devi Gilpin of Columbus, IN took the seventh spot.

The defending Hunt The Front Super Dirt Series Champion Brandon Overton of Evans, GA was eighth and Michael Chilton of Salvisa, KY drove to a ninth-place finish. The 2023 series champion Josh Putnam of Florence, AL Jake O’Neil of Tucson, AZ started 21 st and finished 11th to earn the MD3 Hard Charger of the Race Award.

“I’m not sure if the rubber in the track saved me or not, but we got in lapped traffic, and Jason got by me, and caught a couple more lapped cars, and I got back by him,” Hedgecock said. “I really appreciate Jason racing me clean, and I want to thank all of my guys for their hard work. I can’t wait to get to Florence Speedway tomorrow night. I’ve had that one circled on my calendar because I love that place.”

In preliminary action, Rice was the My Race Pass Fast Qualifier among the 25 entrants with a lap around Lake Cumberland Speedway in 13.528 seconds. The three eight lap Heat Races were won by Rice in the Sublmtd Apparel First Heat, Jameson in the Coltman Farms Second Heat, and Hedgecock in the MD3 Third Heat.

The Hunt The Front Super Dirt Series will now travel north in the Commonwealth of Kentucky for a $20,000-to-win Feature Race on Saturday night at Florence Speedway in Walton, KY. Mitchell leads the Hunt The Front Super Dirt Series $50,000 Championship point standings with a four point lead over Owens.

Friday night’s win moved Hedgecock from sixth to third in the standings, just 22 points behind Mitchell. Dalton Cook of Salem, AL is fourth and Joiner moved up to the fifth spot.
