Weiss Claims HTF Series Points Opener at I-75 Raceway
SWEETWATER, Tenn. (March 8) – Ricky Weiss of Headingley, Manitoba Canada drove to a $20,000 victory in the 50-lap 2025 point season opener for the Hunt The Front Super Dirt Series on Saturday night at I-75 Raceway. Weiss took the lead from Trey Mills of St. Augustine, FL on lap 20, and then held off a late-race challenge from Daulton Wilson of Fayetteville, NC to take the victory.
“I could see Trey was starting to have trouble getting off the corner on the high side, so when I got a good run on the inside, he covered the bottom, which is O.K. because that’s just racing,” Weiss said. “I tried to switch lanes, but that just shot me up the race track, I regrouped and was able to get a good tun off turn two, and cleared him for the lead down the backstretch.”
Wilson had to settle for the second spot and Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, TN charged from the 12th starting spot to claim the third position. Hedgecock was in a position with ten laps to go to challenge for the win, but almost sailed off the third turn. Hedgecock gathered his car up and came back for a podium finish, Mills took the fourth spot, and fifth went to Dalton Cook of Salen, AL.
Mike Marler of Winfield, TN started 18th and finished sixth to earn the MD3 Hard Charger of the Race Award. Zack Mitchell of Enoree, SC was seventh, and Ryan Gustin of Marshalltown, IA took the eighth spot. Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN finished ninth and Jackson Hise of Ocala, FL rounded out the top ten.
In preliminary action, Gustin was the My Race Pass Fast Qualifier with a lap around I-75 Raceway in 15.560 seconds. Weiss won the Sublimited Apparel First eight-lap Heat Race, and the Coltman Farms Second eight-lap Heat Race was won by Camaron Marler of Winfield, TN. Gustin won the MD3 Third eight-lap Heat Race, and the Minon Construction Fourth eight-lap Heat Race was won by Mills. The two ten-lap NRC Oil Last Chance Qualifying Races were won by Austin Smith of Cedartown, GA and Mike Marlar.
